“When I create, I transition between big colorful “wake-up” works and intricate “meditative” black and white drawings in pen & ink or graphite pencil. I would describe my paintings as a combination of hyper-realism and surreal color. The subjects I paint or draw always want to burst out of their boxy confinement to confront the viewer. I don’t like to take my art (or life, for that matter) too seriously, so a little ‘whimsy’ (or is it snarkiness?) creeps in on occasion.” (J.Trueax)
