Entries due Tuesday, January 28 by midnight

Juried by Denver’s fabulously weird power couple, Merhia Wiese and Andrew Novick. They have been the jurors for our Valentine’s shows for many years and have graciously agreed to do this again for us.

We decided to mix things up for Valentine’s Day this year and do something kooky — our first googly eyes show! “I’m making googly eyes at you” can be a sign of love, or admiration, or just someone being silly. But googly eyes are fun and campy and can completely change the look and feel of a piece of art. So go crazy and show us what you can make with googly eyes. You can add them to art you’ve already made, like portraits and photos, or make something entirely new. You can create an entire piece from googly eyes or even build your own. Big googly eyes, small googly eyes — just have fun! And if it relates to Valentine’s Day in any way, all the better. We look forward to seeing all of it!

Art drop-off will be Sunday, Feb. 2, 12-5 pm, at Kanon Collective, 6501 W. Colfax Ave. We’re right across the parking lot from Casa Bonita.

The Making Googly Eyes show is open to all mediums and your interpretation of the theme. We are excited to see how you use googly eyes in your work.  Have fun with this one.

Artists may submit multiple pieces — $25 for three entries, and $10 for each additional entry. All work submitted must be for sale.

A photo gallery of accepted pieces will be posted online and a link will be emailed to the artists by Friday, January 31. Art must be delivered to Kanon on Sunday, February 2 between 12-5 p.m. All pieces must be completely dry and ready to hang (with proper hanging wire or D-rings – no sawtooth hangers) and all pieces need to be labeled with the artist’s name and the title. Sculptures need to be able to fit on a standard 12″ pedestal. In case of multiple pieces, please include a diagram if they are to be hung in a specific order and we will do our best to accommodate this. The show will open on Friday, February 7, and run through Sunday, March 2. We will have receptions all Friday nights that the show runs.

All artwork must be picked up on Sunday, March 2, between 2-5 p.m. Please email us if you need to make other arrangements. Kanon takes no responsibility for work that is left at the gallery after March 16. You will be given a receipt for each piece submitted and may have someone else bring that receipt to the gallery to pick your work up for you.

Kanon will charge a 30% commission on all work sold. Kanon accepts all major credit cards. Payment for work will be available 30 days after the show ends, typically through PayPal.

Accepted art may be photographed for emails, our website, and other publicity pieces.

Application Instructions:

Please make all entry payments through PayPal and then email your images to info@kanonart.com (use this email for PayPal as well). The entry fees are $25 for the first three entries and then $10 for each additional entry. All images should be jpegs or png files, about 2000 pixels square (add a black background for rectangular images), and less than 2 MB in size each. If possible, please use the same email for both your PayPal payment and your image submission.

Please label each image file with your name, title, and the size of your piece (i.e. JaneSmith_Title_12x12.jpg). This is very important as we need to know who each image belongs to and how big the pieces are.

This information — especially the size — is also important in deciding how many pieces we can accept so please be sure to do this. If sending multiple entries, please limit the total file size for each email to 10 MB.Thanks and please let us know if you have any questions.
